- Gravitational potential energy is the energy that is stored when something is up high and can fall due to gravity.
- Kinetic energy is the energy of movement.
- When something begins falling or rolling down an incline, it's potential energy is being turned into kinetic energy
- When something that is moving goes up a slope, it will slow down because its kinetic energy is turning into potential energy.

1. Pendulum Demonstration (Think of it as a swing on the playground)
- Tie rope to a pendulum and tie the end to something high so it can swing back and forth.
- Stand blindfolded and hold pendulum up to your nose. From there, drop the pendulum and watch it swing.
- It can never go higher than the place in where it was dropped because energy is lost.
- Wind resistance
- Friction against the air
- Potential energy is being converted to kinetic energy, then back to potential energy again.

2. Sacrificing Gummy Bears
- Gummy bears get energy from the sun because the sugar in them comes from sugar cane.
- When we burn something we combine it with oxygen and release the energy stored in the bonds between the atoms in big fat fuel molecules. In the case with the gummy bear, the sugar was the big fat molecule.
- When it was placed in the test tube, the energy between the bonds was released.
- This can be shown by connecting people in a circle with rubber bands. When the rubber bands are cut, it shows the energy being released and the bonds break apart.
